Had the opportunity to play Pier Park, just outside of Portland, Oregon last week on vacation. I was there a couple of years ago but didn't realize there was such a beautiful course so close to the city. The drive to the course is really deceptive; it's through a commercial/industrial area and doesn't lead you to believe you'll find such a jewel in its midst... ...but you do. The course plays through giant old growth fir trees with no, yes I mean no, undergrowth. It's seriously right handed oriented but there's still plenty of challenge given the density of the tree coverage. There's nice change in elevation on most of the holes that adds to the overall appearance of the course. It certainly is in my top-ten list of courses for overall beauty, but maybe not in terms of difficulty. If you're in the vicinity definitely check it out.
