Went there two days ago. Love the new baskets, you can see them for miles. The basket on 5 is still missing, and the basket on 14 is set up wrong. The chains are too close to the basket, as a matter of fact the chains are sitting in the basket. Makes for a much more accurate putt. I don't know if there is not enough baskets or if someone stole #5. Taking short #2, #13, or #16 would be better than having no chains at all for #5. Just a thought. I do love the new baskets though.

the new baskets look great. i think the parks guys made a couple errors installing them - the poles appear to be upside down on 10 and 14, so the target to putt at is way smaller than usual. awesome job getting them powder coated though!

Played it today for the first time since baskets were put in. Noticed the midget baskets. Will make necessary changes asap. The park dept liked them so much they want to do the rest of the course(a-f) and the Walton course.

Played Idlewild on Sunday. I noticed that some of the powder-coating on the baskets was chipping. This is typically due to the surface not being prepped adequately (vendor probably missing spots while sandblasting). Not sure if the company that did the job has any sort of guarantee on their work, but it might be worth mentioning to the parks dept since I'm sure it wasn't cheap to do that.

On a second note, what's up with the metal post nailed to the tree on hole 5's tee? Trying to discourage the over-the-top shot?

Mark, we cut a fairway on #5 so that you have a chance to get to the second level without having to go over the top. I also put that post up to block going over the top. Open one alley, close one so that the hole plays the same for everyone.

I'm thinking that the nicks were done during the installation. Not sure about a guarantee. They shouldn't rust, they are galvanized under the powder coating.

That's cool. I figured that last skinny tree would go at some point from repeated disc hits and the creek. Didn't realize it was cut, figured it fell over.

I doubt the gap will fill in through summer given the shade and player traffic.

...but Idlewild is the #1 'Favorited" course in the world on DGCR. Keep in mind the ratings include all those haters that are gonna hate. I'm still a noob, and have only played 92 courses so far, but you should know that Idlewild stands WAY at the top as the most impressive course I've seen. No gimmicks, just the best designed, most lovingly cared for course. Whenever I muster up the willpower to let Idlewild humble me again, I STILL marvel that its free to play there. Thanks for all your work, Fred.

that selah ranch does look like a sweet place though carts cabins but its not cheap to play

I've played Selah. Played it last summer. You need to make reservations, so I was told I was the first from Cincinnati to play the courses. I will say it is a wonderful course and terrific experience. Hard to compare Idlewild to Selah. A public course vs. a private resort. Both are terrific and five star worthy. As far as the "concern for the people" down there, the staff could not be nicer and more welcoming.
