Yes, thanks really go out to Mike Kemner for the work he puts into this - and anybody else who's doing stuff I don't know about. Great work.

This is just a reminder to let people know that the front page of our site now has Annoucements and Newsletter articles posted on it. This is replacing the old hardcopy and e-mail Newsletter. That had just gotten to be too much for anyone to keep up with and the news that got published really wasn't news any longer. In this day and age of electronic communication, this seemed to be the best way to go. We hope you like it and that it is of benefit to you. If you do know someone who doesn't have a computer, share the information with them verbally or even print some of the articles off for them. If you have any thoughts or ideas on this, please let us know. Thanks to Mike Kemner and Dan Hollingshead for their help in making this happen on the website.
So for some of you who normally skip the front page and come directly to the forums, it will be important for you to check the home page now. Again, this is where we will post any Annoucements, such as a change to the Icebowl site we just had for the 1/9/10 Icebowl and other items of interest along with follow-up and reviews of local and possibly regional events of interest. A Year in Review article by GCFDA President Dave Marlow, was published today so you can read about all the good stuff that went on in 2009.

Thanks to Mike Kemner. I really did not have a hand in this upgrade, but I think it's a great improvement.

I put it up there, but it still lacks the details. So let me know what you want it to say.

Fred has the ability to do this himself. He's probably forgotten the process but there is a tutorial for him in the manage events section once he's logged in.

Jason, I gave you access to weekly events. You'll need to follow the tutorial from the menu.

You should familiarize yourself with the procedure to make a new event but you're now listed as the owner of the Mt. Airy event. If you click on the event under events > manage events > weekly events you should be able to modify the current one.

I'm curious. The home page on this site says that you get a free disc for joining or renwing your membership. I received a voucher for a free disc when I initially joined the club, but I didn't know that I was to receive one when I renewed. Is this accurate? Here is how the home page reads:
Advantages of becoming a GCFDA member include: lower entry fees to Cincinnati Course Challenges and a free disc for joining or renewing membership. Join and support your local disc golf community!

I believe that is a typo, I don't think we give away plastic for renewals, just for your initial membership sign up. Double checking on it.

It's been updated to note that the disc is only for new memberships.

Oops.
It could prevent many headaches and whiners in the future. There are alot of people that frequent our tourneys but do not check the forum. This is usually because usually they don't know about it, or don't know that the most accurate, up to date info about a local event is almost always found in this one place.
My idea: Next season, for every weekly there should be a small but very noticeable link to the latest post for that event.
It could read " please check the FORUM before attending" or before attending, check the LATEST ANNOUNCEMENTS. The best option in my opinion would be to have as few details as possible on home page,(day, location, and time if you must) and have it say click HERE for details and instead of a details page, it leads to the latest post.
Just a thought, no, a mandate. If tired of people not checking the forum

Cyrus, if you want we can give you edit permissions for the event. That way you could change time and cancel the event as you need. We intended the system to be used like that but often those who run the events never update the front page.
Making the other changes that you suggest would be extremely difficult. I'll try to think of other possibilities though.
