A satellite view of Idlewild. I think it's from last year as the justice buidings are under construction. Can just make out the teepads.

These are the only other courses where satellite pics were available

Nick, I am thinking of not painting the wall at all. What do you think? It looks good the way it is now and we(you) won't have to repaint it every couple of years.
Rob, that should be right.
Don, call me.

Fred,  Will you be at Idlewild on Sunday?  It looks like we may have decent weather that day.  If so, I'll be down there to take out those honeysuckle stumps.  I could use that root-cutting thing Rob brought with him last time I was there.  Oh, and I've still got your bowsaw!

Fred wanted me to let all adopt-a-hole people know that there are only a few more weekends before the Disc n Dat Bluegrass Open at Idlewild -- so get your holes looking their tournament best.

A lot of Spring growth needs to be trimmed back around teesigns and teepad areas and -- as always -- the honeysuckle bushes are a problem. Holes 6 and 18 have a lot of honeysuckle along the fairways still that needs to be removed to make the holes look better and to make finding discs easier. Rather than make the holes easier the removal of the honeysuckle bushes lets errant throws go further off fairway. Be sure to move all cut thorns, bushes, stumps, etc. *well* off the fairways (50 feet).

It looks like the KY gap tree needs to be pole sawed to cut off side branches starting to grow out of the 'Y' on hole 11 too. With the Oxford course challeneg a week from Sunday there isn't a lot of time left so any help you can give the course before the Disc n Dat will be appreciated. (also, we want to take new pictures of the course for the website to display the latest improvements and grooming efforts)

I think I'll go down early this afternoon with various saws and things to remove honeysuckle stumps. I'll take care of what Rob was talking about on the "Y" tree with my pole saw.

If you could take down the honeysuckle and tree stumps on 10, that would be great!  around the bend, on the right side.

I still plan on being down there sunday to do more work.

Chris, thanks for your work on 10.  That area looks so much better!

Fred, do we have access to any weekwackers or a bushhog or anything.  The areas the park doesn't cut are getting pretty long on 10.  I'd like to clean that up before the Bluegrass Open.

I should be able to get down again this week to do some more work. It's a shame about the mowing because the course would look great if the grass didn't look so bad. I was thinking about cutting some of the honeysuckle on 18. Is there any way that I could drive my truck to eighteens fairway and load it up with honeysuckle and dump it somewhere?

If you want the course mowed it's going to take a concentrated effort from everyone. So call Boone County parks at 859-334-2117. Mention the ticks that live in the tall grass, lost discs, it makes us look bad when disc golfers visiting from out of town see the course in it's present condition and we need the course to look good for the upcoming tournament etc....

Chris, I cleared out a few more huge honeysuckle bushes on 10 that were way too thick at the base for the saw I was using.  These are in the first group of trees before you get to the basket.  If you're ever at Idlewild with your chainsaw and could take those out, it would be greatly appreciated.  The area you cleared up on Friday looks great!

I'll be down in the next few days and cut the rest of the stumps on ten. I brought two sharp chains with me last time so I could cut the stumps real low and change the chain when the dirt and stuff dulled the blade. Since you removed those other honeysuckles on ten I think I'll bring my trimmer with me and cut the grass in the middle of the Locust trees after I cut the stumps. Is anyone going to be at Mt. Airy tomarrow morning?

Anyone know what JP is REALLY doing hole 5?  I've heard several rumors, which include: A wall so high, you have to take the over the top route. A White Castle. A bridge. A walking path. A fort with midgets who play defense on your drive. A wall with holes & chutes that take you different places. A "crap hut". A place to keep extra beer.

Yes, Enzweiller and Napier have adopted #18. I thin John doesn't have time to do much at Idlewild anymore, since he got married and bought a house. I will ask him if it's ok for Chris to take over on Sunday.
Thanks for all the work you guys did on Saturday.
Doug Aulick and I just got the wall repainted before we got rained out.
Hopefully I will have the new bridge in before the end of next week.
Will try to get lumber for your hole next.

For all you adopt a holees. If you get a chance to play Idlewild check out hole #10 and #14 and #16. That is what we are trying to accomplish out there. Those holes look really awesome.
I know they haven't mowed a lot of the fairways so YOU need to call the parks and complain. 859-334-2117
Do it now so we won't be rushing to get it done a couple of days before the tournament.
Way to go Brian and Chris, Rob and Don.
Looks like theres a battle going on for adopt a hole of the year.

Cris, sorry I John had to leave early and I didn't get a chance to ask him. I will call him today. Thanks for all the work you've done at Idlewild and sorry I haven't gotten back to you. I will try to do better.

Rob, I'll be in Louisville {the largest city in Kentucky; situated on the south bank of the Ohio River on a low level plain, on the Kentucky-Indiana state line) Saturday the 21st. of this month. The best opportunity for me to do some work at Idlewild is Sunday the 22nd. If you want to do some more weed and grass cutting, I'll bring my equipment. Let me know something. Also, I'll ask Paul if he wants to meet up with us.

Thanks Don, but I work on Sunday so i guess that's out. I trimmed around my teepads (14 long and short) today and the fairway is still fairly decent. I wanted to cut 13 long's green a second time and to do a path down 6's fairway since it has gotten so high -- but those aren't my holes so hopefully the rightful owners will step up and get r done before the tournament. I did trim back some honeysuckle branches growing over some of the teepads and teesigns of various holes, but more needs to be done.

Reminder to all hole adoptees: the paths from the the pin before your adopted hole and also the path to the next teepad after your hole's basket also need to be cared for.
