Played Oxford with a group of people on Saturday. Once again, the university has torn up part of the course. Hole 2 still hasn't been replaced, but, we can put a temp basket there if we want to play that hole. Hole 7's tee is gone though. The area around that entire building has been fenced off. Our group walked around to the front of the building and played a 300-350 shot from the lawn in front of the building. It actually works pretty well if we want to use that area as a temp tee. Righty anhyzer shot. kuhns are you planning on playing the temp hole over the pond?

Kapgun,
Thank you for addressing the course issue up in Oxford. I have not been up there in a few months. I plan on going up there in the next few weeks to get in a round and check out the state of affairs myself.
I love the temp hole over the pond. What does everyone else think of it? I know Ed Stolfrigen (SP) hates that hole because a few years ago he took an 11 on that hole. Its all about risk and reward.
Kuhns OUT!!!

I'm not a huge fan of that hole, but it does always create a bunch of good stories (mostly horror stories).
We play #2 across the street to 15's basket, it's a great hole....probably won't work for the Course Challenge. We've played #7 from about where Kapgun is talking about, that should work for the tournament.
Maybe use the pond hole, the temp hole after regular 15, and make it 20 holes.

Well, don't miss then. I have to say as the TD for the Oxford Course Challenge I hate to see a PDGA event in our area on the same day as the course challenge. All I have to say is I look forward to see as many people as possible at the Oxford Course Challenge. And Remember the Course Challenge is only one day and it is a lot cheaper than a PDGA tournament. See you all at BIG OX!!!

If I'm not mistaken, lunch will be available at Oxford like it was at Airy & Boone. This time the proceeds will go to the Kentucky State Championships. Then lunches will continue to support local PDGA tournaments. Burnett lunch money goes to the Gulley Open, Monroe money to Deuce or Die, Harbin to the Pig, Idlewild to Ky State Doubles, etc.
We've had 72 people at each of the first two CCS events & Oxford should be no different.

I hope everyone is ready for the oxford course challenge at the end of the month. I went up to play the course over the weekend and it seems a little more overgrown than last year. I think all the construction on the course has reduced the amount of play the course has received over the last year. It looks like again we are going to play the over the pond shot at the course challenge. Since hole 7 does not have a tee, because of the construction, we will make the hole a straight shot that is around 350 feet long. It is a fun shot that will be friendly to lefties and righties(at least righties with a turnover drive or forehand). I will bring my basket for hole 2, which currently has no basket. I also ask that at least 3 other people bring baskets in case we have a good showing and need to expand the course a few holes. If we do need to do so it will be the usual holes across the street from hole 2 and on the other side of the hedge row from 3.
Please send any and all suggestions to my attention. I would like to hear from the roaring crowd, that is the GCFDA.
Sincerely,
Kuhns

How about adding some of Liz's cash she generates from food sales, to the ladies' division at course challenge events? Say we have 20 men in the Open division... $100.00 is added to their division or $5.00/entrant. The Open women could receive the same amount/entrant in their division, or at least part of this depending on the amount of their entry fee??? Is their entry $10.00 as opposed to the Open men at $20.00? Comments???

Yeah, Bob, I appreciate the gesture, but I think the added money would need to be brought up a club meeting, more appropriately, when the Course Challenge Series schedule is presented and discussed. As of now, the $ raised from lunches will go towards the local PDGA tourneys, and I think it's a win-win for everyone, especially out at Oxford, where your options for restaurants close by are limited. So, get ready for burgers on Saturday, people!

Not very close at all, it's not an issue, it's out by the road, I don't remember exactly where is was in the past, but I don't think it's much different. John - Dan Bayless will be bringing two scoreboards - are we going to need scorecards with 24 holes on them - just in case we have to expand the course?

The new hole 2 placement is only about 30+ ft. to the left of the old placement, and about the same distance (maybe a couple more feet) from the road. It's pretty clear now because of the construction, but it's a harsh right to left turn now, kind of a blind shot because of the trees right by the tee....like the world needs another stinkin' righty hole! :smile
It's no where near hole 1's basket.

24 hole cards wouldn't be a bad idea. We have a 22 hole layout ready to roll if needed. Regular 18, the three front holes we played last year, swan lake part 2.
$100 added to Open. 5 $10 gift certificates to Disc 'n Dat as am CTP's. 2 lightweight discs as a CTP for am women. Lunch available at the course. It's Oxford, so I'm sure there will be a post tournament business meeting somewhere.

We could make it 24 holes I have two more holes in mind if we can get the baskets. Which would put the total to 4 more needed and a total of six. If you have a basket post and bring. If we have a great turn out we will want to add more holes. If you are not coming and you have a basket that we could use let me know and will pick it up this week and return it to you the following week.
Liz call Jeff Eades and see if we can use any of his baskets. I do not have his number. Liz we could use some cards that have 24 holes. Let me know if I need to make them or do we have them.
Kuhns and Liz are bringing baskets. :stickpoke

Finnegan, you could drop yours at 9's tee pad. It's right by the road. That's where the basket for Swan Lake Part 2, aka Bigboy's revenge, aka triple circle, aka the Ed Stoffregen Memorial hole is.

Course temps for Oxford are all painted with flags. I have 6 temp holes set if we need to use them. Nick are you bringing the small tee signs to relabel the holes. If not I have the the temp holes labeled as A, B, C, D, E, F. The six temp holes are as follows. A, B and C are at the begining of the course across the street from the parking lot. They are the same temps we used the last time or as close as I could remember. I had to change them up a little because of tree and bush growth. Temp hole D is between regular hole 16 and 17. Short ceiling shot 200 feet through trees. Temp E " the Ed Stollfregen Memorial hole" is over swan lake with everything right of the road OB. Temp hole F is before the bell tower playing up the hill with road on right OB.
I would like to thank Nate for helping me set up the temps. I look forward to seeing all out this Saturday for a long day of disc golf.

Yeah, Nick, I too was in that death-by-disc-golf category. But then, I'm old enough to have a good reason. :smile.
Many thanks to workhorses Kuhns, Marlow, and co. !!!

I don't know how to correct this, but because we changed the format from 18 holes to 24, the ratings are really low for the rounds. Glad to see the scores posted, though.

i think the local ratings are calculated based on course (18 hole) par -- maybe we should use the PDGA ratings spreadsheet since then the only requirement will be 8 rated players participating to act as propogators...
the ratings tool is available via the PDGA website...

We might want to look into getting the PDGA rating calculator...because i'm really confused on what my actual rating was for my last few rounds (it ranges from 663 to 804 according to my calculations. And then I threw 2 840's at the KY states?) EDIT: By using the PDGA's sheet (which is really easy to use.) I've determined the SSA was 63.22, if anyone else needs help determining their rating.
