We have just been informed of the following per Cincinnati Parks:
To Disc Golf Course Users:
Yesterday we received some very discouraging news regarding budget from City Managers Office. The proposed reduction of parks budget is severe if not catastrophic. It will include closing of Mt Airy Forest on July 1, 2013 including the disc golf course. If you or any other disc golf course users want to speak on the park boards behalf please plan on attending the Public Budget Hearings at Duke Energy Center 6pm on Monday 5/13/13. Myself and the other Club Officers will be attending to speak on our side of things but please feel free to attend for a show of support. There are many other parks that will be closing, like Caldwell and Seymour, plus all restrooms will be closed, all floral beds, and mowing cycles cut in half with other definite cuts I don`t know of yet. What this means is, if something drastic doesn`t change in the budget very soon, No more Mt.Airy DGC for at least a year and probably more. Baskets, signs and other course materials will be removed and stored until the park reopens sometime in the future. Please help us spread the word, we will be planning for the worst and hoping for the best.

As another CCS season comes to a close, I would like to thank everyone that came out to play in any of our event this year. I would also like to thank everyone that helped out during the events, whether they rechecked cards, organized the score board, helped with signups or anything else. It is a big help and it would be much harder to put on these events.
Now for a Lincoln Ridge recap, we had 74 people show up to play Saturday November 3. After a rainy first round, and a surprising hail filled second round we had the results.

Pro Masters: John Finnegan
Pro Women: Hanna Webb
Advanced: Justin Ammerman
Advanced Masters: Lynn Ledford
Intermediate: Ryan McMath

For the series over the nine events we had 682 people show up for an average of 76 people per event. The lowest attendance was 45 at Idlewild and Rapid Run had the highest with 119.

The next course challenge series is at Kathryn Stagge Marr Community Park in Goshen Ohio. The 275 Milford exit maybe closed come this saturday, please take the Milford Parkway exit, continue onto the Milford Parkway off the highway, it will cross over rout 50 and turn into 131. Take 131 to 132, turn left onto 132. Take 132 to Woodville Pike, turn right onto Woodville Pike. Take Woodville Pike to Goshen Road, turn left onto Goshen Road. Continue onto Goshen Road, the park will be immediately on your right after a dip in the road and a 90 degree turn to the left. If you drive by the shools you've gone too far. If you are coming from route 28, the course is on your left after the school. Look for the little white house and the red barn, there is a Park sign as well. Friendly reminder, this is a new course and it is still in development, temp signage will be in for the event and/or provided via handhout. The rough is very rough, so stay on the fairways and watch your footing, we have taken out many stumps yet some remain, as do holes and divets. Not all of the tee placements are in place, the layout on Saturday will be an intermediate layout as many short and long tees are not in place at this time. I recommend long pants, as you play, if you come across any sticks it would be greatly appreciated if you could throw them to the side. The park will also be hosting a haunted trail and corn maze at night, so if your own round isn't scary good or scary bad, I encourage you to stay for the evening and have some fun!

On a beautiful day for disc golf, 119 people came out to Rapid Run to play in the CCS C-Tier.
We had 20 baskets originally set up, but when we noticed that that was not going to be enough, we scrambled to get 2 more set up. We still had to use two ghost groups, but the flow still seemed to go very well. Gary Beebe had his son Gabe out in the lake to collect the many discs that were thrown in the water.
While Dave Cox shot a blistering -13 the first round, Cyrus was able to take home first in Open with Dave in second. Bob Herbert won Masters with Jeff Eades in second. Jason Keith won the Advanced division. Joe Rott won Advanced Masters. Kirk Jones took home Intermediate. Andrew Bruce won Recreational and Patty Francis won the three person battle for Rec. Women.
There were three aces for the day, yet each person still took home over $100.
The next CCS will be at A.J. Jolly. Originally it was at Goshen, but we are switching the two events to give us more time to finish getting the course up and running in time.
I hope everyone had a great time and I will see you at A.J. Jolly!

On a warm day, 45 people showed up to battle the beast that is Idlewild. We played two rounds of the original 18. The first from the long tees, and the second from the shorts.
Brand new member Tim Blanchet in his first CC won the Rec. division with a score of 148. Ryan McMath took home the win in the Intermidiate division with a 145. "Awesome" Bob Roberts won Advanced Masters with a 146, and nobody wanted to play in Advanced.
Masters and Open had interesting finishes. In Masters, Jeff Eades and Steve Mahl were tied at 139, after the two rounds and went to a playoff that Jeff won. Because of the number of people in the division they were also the only ones paid. In Open we had eight people, three being paid. There were three people that tied at the top with 132's. One the first hole of the playoff, Jeff Vandermark hit a 80ft putt to take first. On the third playoff hole, Spencer Nunnelley beat Billy Page with his own 100ft shot that went in.
Our next Course Challenge is at Rapid Run Park on July 28th. Hope to see you there.

On a great day weather wise, 67 people showed up by detour to the Oxford CC. Because much of the Honeysuckle that was on the course has been cut down, the course played easier, but still had some bite at times.
After the discs were thrown Spencer Nunnelley came away with the win, with a score of 92. MU Student Billy Page came in second, he shot a scorching 44 the first round, but could not hold the lead at the end. In Open Masters, John Finnegan won for the second time this season.
The next CC is at Idlewild on Sunday June 24th.

2012 High School Disc Golf Championships at Lincoln Ridge May 12

Greetings! Please help us get the word out on this tournament for current HS students! An entry form can be picked up at Disc 'n Dat or at the #1 tee at the course. Thanks – Steve Trauger
High School Disc Golf Championships ~ Boys Division & Girls Divisions May 12 at Lincoln Ridge Park
Kenton County Recreation will present the 10th annual High School Disc Golf Championships on Saturday, May 12 at Lincoln Ridge Disc Golf Course. The tournament format will consist of one round of 24 holes.
With the 24-hole tournament format, records were set last year: Gabe McMichael (Anderson High School) is the current tournament course record holder with 76 and Scott High School is the current tournament team score record holder with a 5-person team score of 449.
WARNING: Due to recent poor participation (just 10 players in 2011 from a high of 53 in 2009), this may be the last year for the event. Pass the word.
On-site registration will begin at 12:00 pm with Player’s Meeting at 12:30 pm, and shotgun start tee off at 12:45 pm. There are separate divisions for Girls and Boys with the same Team and Individual Formats, described below. All currently enrolled High School students are welcome to participate! Players must provide their current school year ID. An entry form must be completed and a parent’s signature is required for entrants under the age of 18. An entry form is available here or at the bulletin board next to Tee #1 at Lincoln Ridge.
Cost is $20 per player. Each entrant will receive a Golf Disc. Those who pre-register will also receive a disc golf t-shirt. Pre-register by mail or register on-site day of event. Check-in will begin at 11:00 am at Shelterhouse 1.
Past winning teams include current champion Scott High School, Anderson High School (2010, 2005), Fairfield High School (2009 and 2008), Dixie Heights (2007 champion), St. Xavier (2006 champion), McNicholas (2004 champion); and the inaugural contest winners, Highlands High School. What school will take home the title and traveling trophy this year may depend on you!
The tournament will consist of two competitions: Team and Individual.
TEAM FORMAT: Enter as many team members as you can from your school. The combined score of the Top 5 members of your team will be compared to the combined score of the Top 5 members of the other teams. The team with the combined lowest score will win the Team Championship. You must have 5 players from your school to participate in the team competition. The Top team will have their school name engraved on a traveling trophy to be kept at their school until the following year.
INDIVIDUAL FORMAT: You do NOT need to have a 5-person team to enter the Individual competition. Individual players will be playing for trophies and prizes. The player with the lowest score will win the Individual Championship. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 individual players.
Please note: Lincoln Ridge Disc Golf Course will be closed to the public for casual play for this event from noon until 5:00 pm. Please respect the players and tournament host and play another course or plan to play after 5:00 pm. Thanks for your consideration and cooperation!

Despite the cloud cover and brisk winds, 76 players showed up for the second Course Challenge Series event of 2012 at Turtle Creek. The first round of action resulted in a very tight field across all divisions. Phil Miller jumped out to the lead in Men's Open with the lowest round, 51, and a two stroke lead going into second round. Rebbeca Cox in the Open Woman's division turned in a 54 in the first round, good enough for 3rd in the Men's Open division. Jim Ferrara turned in a 53 in the first round, granting him a one stroke lead in the Men's Open Masters Division going into the second round. Drew Zeiglar earned some breathing room in the first round with a 55 and a 4 stroke lead in the Men's Advanced division. In the Advanced Masters Men division, Ron Godbey jumped out to a 1 stroke lead with a 58. The "Grape Ape" Tony Holsinger also distanced himself from his competition in the first round, shooting a 58, with a 3 stroke lead heading into second round. In a field of 29 players, Mark Dunn jumped out to a 2 stroke lead in the Rec division shooting a 59.

The second round the field started to heat up. After lunch, 4 time CCS Men's Open champ, Dave Cox, decided he had nothing better to do than take first in the Men's Open division, sneeking up off the second card for the win with a 48. Jim Ferrara bested his 1st round performance and the rest of Men's Open Masters Division, shooting a 52 for the win. Drew Zeiglar turned it up in the second round, shooting a 52 and taking the advanced division by 12 strokes! Lynn Ledford climbed the ranks to take first in the Advanced Men's division shooting a 56 in the second round. Jeremy Ison jumped from second to first in the Men's Int. division with a 55 in the second round and Mark Dunn joined the ranks of our winners securing first place in the Rec field with a 61 in the second round.

Congrats to all of our winners and we hope to see you, and better weather, in May at the next CCS in Oxford.

On what could have been a rainy day, 76 people showed up for this years first course challenge.
Lucky for us no rain came down, and we had plenty of sun to dry up some of the water at soggy Harbin Park.
When the day was done, Turbo Tim Brandeburg took first place in Open Men. John Finnegan won Open Masters with an ace on the last hole of the round (Hole 2) to seal the win.
Thank you to everyone that participated, and I hope to see everyone at our next Course Challenge which will be at Turtlecreek on Sunday April 22.

Yes, have fun playing disc golf and help others at the same time.
Last year the GCFDA raised $2700 for the Fairhaven Rescue Mission through it's Ice Bowl events. We've set a goal of $3200 for the 2012 Ice Bowls sponsored by the GCFDA and Disc 'n Dat.
We've had one Ice Bowl thus far and have raised over $500. $5 of each entry fee, all mulligan fees, proceeds for the sale of Ice Bowl Fundraiser discs, the Innova Basket raffle and other donations help us to raise money to reach our goal. The GCFDA and an anonymous donor have both pledged $1 per participant in the Icebowls this year. If you would like to make a donation, make a pledge, purchase a raffle ticket, fundraiser disc or make a contributiion in any way, contact Dan Bayless at 859.371.3668 or go to 2012 Ice Bowl Krazy Series Fundraiser
You can play in one or all events. Any pledge amount or contribution you can make will go a long way to help others who are in need.

We had 77 people come out to this years New Years Tourney.
The first round was much warmer than the second, although for both rounds saw their fair share of windy conditions.
After the dust settled, we crowned a Champ for the year. David Cox won the Open division with a two round total of 81.
Being Winton Woods, you would expect a few aces. We had three. Shelby Campbell hit 11, John Schengber hit 14 and Ian James hit 10.

CCS Finale at Lincoln Ridge this Saturday November 5. We will play 24 holes the first round and 18 the second.

There is a change this year in the Series Awards Ceremony. In years past
many people have stated it's too long of a day to attend the Series
Awards afterwards at a restaurant, along with other reasons. Thus, the
Awards for the 2011 CCS will be awarded at the first Course Challenge of
the New Year 2012. This way all the people who win will have a larger
gallery and won't have to wait around after the tourney for the
tourney/CCS staff to get everything done.

2011 GCFDA Course Challenge Series(CCS) presents PDGA C-Tier Event at Devou Park in Covington, Ky on 8/14/11
Congratulations to Dave Marlow and the club for getting this tournament together. It has been through a lot of hard work on Dave's part to get this tournament to happen. Due to several requirements by the park and the city of Covington this CCS event needed to be sanctioned by the PDGA.
Thus, a $2 PDGA fee will be charged and for those not currently a PDGA member, there is a $10 PDGA Event Fee. These PDGA Fees are simply the cost of getting to play in a park where we normally don't get to play.
Normal CCS divisions and fees will be in effect - no increases - $2 PDGA Fee is included below.
Men’s Open Division................$27
All other Pro Divisions....................$17
Advanced Divisions.........................$17
Recreational Divisions....$12
Includes the $2 PDGA Fee
Must either be a Current PDGA Member or pay the additional $10 PDGA Event fee to enter. Here's some information about the PDGA $10 Non-Member fee that may be of interest to some of you. When you do this you can become a Supporting Member and receive a lifetime PDGA number, a mini and a rulebook - so you do get something back for your $10 including getting to play in this PDGA event. Also when you become a Supporting Member you can exchange your $10 fee for a $10 discount on a Full Membership. The link below will give you the complete information. This is not done automatically. You need to contact the PDGA at the following link: Supporting PDGA Member
It will be 2 rounds of at least 18 holes - possibly more depending on the number of participants. PDGA members should bring their PDGA membership card as proof of current membership to speed up check-in.
We will be setting up the course between 7:00 and 8:30 AM Sunday. There will be a $2 charge to use Pay-Pal. Registration and check-in the day of the tournament will take place at the Volpenhein Pavilion.
Check-In by 9:00 am Tee at 9:30 am
It is highly recommended to Pre-Register to reserve a spot and to save time the day of.
To Pre-Register Online
